Grosvenor's Golden Goal Lifts Lady Rams, 2-1 in OT

McPHERSON, KS:  The Texas Wesleyan University women's soccer team (9-2, 4-1 SAC) took a thrilling 2-1 win on the strength of a Tameir Grosvenor goal in overtime at Central Christian College (3-9, 0-4 SAC) on Thursday.

Grosvenor, a freshman from DeSoto, TX, continued her dominating debut season, scoring both of the Rams' goals in the contest.  Grosvenor has scored in 10 of her 11 games played this season and currently ranks fourth nationally with 1.73 goals and 3.73 points per game.  Of her 19 goals, seven have been game-winners.

Grosvenor got the scoring started in the 35th minute, when Savannah Hart played a ball from midfield that Grosvenor headed off the post and into the net.

In the second half, the Tigers weathered a 16-shot attack from the Lady Rams.  Goldie Gougher made four saves for Central Christian while Isabel Sierra scored to tie the game with an assist from Rachel Meier in the 63rd minute.

Four minutes and 17 seconds into the first overtime period, Grosvenor took matters in her own hands dribbling past one defender from midfield and beating Gougher one-on-one for the game-winner.

Head Coach Josh Gibbs was proud of his team's effort.  "We never really settled in after a long bus ride, but I was proud of our fight.  I thought we were the better team throughout, but it's a big ask to drive seven and a half hours, hop out and play a game against a hard working competitive team.  We did a good job to fight through it and get another win."

Christy Zwart (8-1) made eight saves in the victory, while Gougher made six stops for the Tigers.

For the game, the Rams outshot the Tigers 27-13 and led 6-0 in corner kicks.

The Rams will return to action on Saturday, when they travel to Shawnee, OK, to take on St. Gregory's University.  That game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
