FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University Women's Soccer team (12-3, 7-2 SAC) ran away with a 6-1 win over Wayland Baptist University (4-11, 3-6 SAC) on Senior Day at Martin Field Saturday evening.
Prior to the game, the Rams honored seniors
Samantha Moore,
Mattie Morris,
Marisol Saucedo, and
Loli Garcia. Over the last four years, Texas Wesleyan has racked up an overall record of 43-21-6 while winning nearly 72% of their conference games at 23-9-3 in SAC play.
Samantha Moore made the most of her Senior Day with two goals and two assists. This season the captain has set career highs in points (39), goals (15) and assists (9).
Moore fed
Taylor Ross for an opening score 7:19 into the game.
Tameir Grosvenor then snapped a season-long three-game scoring drought with her 20th goal of the season.
Cat Smith scored in the 44th minute, and Ross netted a second goal just seconds later to send the Rams to halftime with a healthy 4-0 advantage.
The pair of goals at the end of the first half proved to be big. WBU's Audrey Sierra-Bogan cleaned up a corner kick in the 56th minute that might have made it a 2-1 game. Instead, the Rams still held a comfortable 4-1 edge.
Moore knocked in a free kick from 23 yards out in the 65th minute and converted a penalty kick in the 78th minute to cap the scoring at 6-1.
For the game, the Rams outshot the Pioneers 29-6 and led 6-1 in corner kicks. Wayland's Erin Moore made eight saves in the loss, while
Christy Zwart (11-2) made three saves in the victory.
The Lady Rams will play their regular-season finale on Halloween when they travel to Oklahoma City to take on Mid-America Christian University. That game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
Ramblings
- The Rams and Pioneers played in four different sports on Saturday. The two schools split the day with the Rams posting a 3-0 win in Volleyball and a 6-1 win in Women's Soccer. WBU took the football game 54-24 and won in men's soccer 4-1.
- The Lady Rams will be the third seed in the SAC Tournament and will host the sixth seed in a quarterfinal contest on Friday, Nov. 3.
- Grosvenor recorded at least one point in 13 of 15 games this season. She is the first Ram to score 20 goals in a season since Jessica Watton had 24 in 2011.

- The Rams are now 29-13-5 all-time in SAC play and 9-1-1 against Wayland Baptist. MACU leads the all-time series 3-2.
