FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (17-2, 7-2 SAC) suffered a streak-snapping 3-1(25-23, 25-20, 22-25, 25-15) loss to Oklahoma City (12-5, 8-1 SAC) at the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday.
Â
The volleyball program took time during intermission to honor Ram parents for all of their love and support as a part of Parent & Alumni Weekend.
Â
The Texas Wesleyan win streak ends at nine games. During that span, the team averaged .304 hitting and amassed 65.5 blocks. Â
Â
The Lady Rams offense never seemed to hit on all cylinders, as the Stars kept the high powered offense subdued by keeping the ball alive to the tune of 69 digs. The Stars stayed consistent throughout the match, weathering the explosive outbursts by the Ram hitters. Oklahoma City out-hit TXWES .227 to .162, an unseasonably low mark, their lowest output since hitting .131in a loss to SAGU over a month ago.
Â
Texas Wesleyan set the tone in the first set, romping out to an 8-3 lead capped on a
Tierra Coverson solo block. The Stars recovered and tied the set at 14 apiece. The two teams went point-for-point with OCU pulling out a 25-23 first set on a Stafani Nell kill.
Â
The second set saw a tightly contested struggle to hold serve until the Stars used a 6-2 run to grab some breathing room at 22-17. A
Shelby Stinnett kill cut the lead to three at 23-20, but the Stars held on the take a 2-0 match lead.
Â
The Rams came back in the third set with fire, taking the first five points and turning that into a 15-9 lead. Oklahoma City responded and cut the lead to one, but
Shelby Stinnett put one on a rope in the back corner to take the set, 25-22.
Â
The Stars established and maintained a slight edge to start the fourth. That lead grew to eight at 21-13, and ended things with their 13th ace of the match to take the 3-1 win. Â
Â
Shelby Stinnett paced the Rams with a season high 19 kills, hitting .471.
Sasha Robinson posted 31 assists, 16 digs, five kills, and six blocks in the match.
Brittni Mohle tacked on 8 kills and 17 digs.
Â
The Lady Rams will look to get back in the win column in a home match against Arlington Baptist College on Tuesday, October 10. The match is set for a 6:00 p.m. start.
