FORT WORTH, TX: A shorthanded Texas Wesleyan University men's soccer team (2-7-1, 0-3-1 SAC) suffered a 4-1 loss against Southwestern Christian University (10-2, 4-0 SAC) in Sooner Athletic Conference action at Martin Field on Saturday.
The Rams, who were playing without the aid of four regular starters, gave up an early penalty kick that SCU's Matheus Goviea converted in the 9th minute.
The Rams got that goal back in the 15th minute. Anthony Atilola ripped a free kick from 25 yards that Caleb Swanepoel saved but could not hold. Micah Day was there to collect the rebound and net his sixth goal of the season.
The Eagles almost immediately caught the Rams on their heels, with a score from Igor Stojanovic just 32 seconds later. SCU added goals from Lucas Loureiro (21st minute) and Jack Hazlehurst (24th minute) to cap the scoring at 4-1.
SCU outshot the Rams 22-8 and led 7-1 in corner kick opportunities. Bastian Blumenberg made seven saves for the Rams, while Swanepoel made four saves to preserve the win.
The Rams will return to action on Thursday, when they travel to McPherson, KS, to take on Central Christian University. That game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
