Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Lady Rams Fall To No. 1 Blue Raiders, 3-0

SIOUX CITY, IA: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (27-5) dropped a 3-0 (25-9, 25-10, 25-13) match to top seed Lindsey Wilson College (29-0) in the opening pool game of the 2017 NAIA Women's National Championship tournament in Gateway Arena on Tuesday.

The Lady Rams did not look themselves for the better part of the match and struggled to get in-sync against the top team in the nation. The Blue Raiders played extremely accurate, keeping a very steady tempo on offense.

"We had to make a lot of in-game adjustments today, but our volleyball IQ is better because of it" said head coach Priscilla Morgan. "We were able to get our serve receive under control, but our goal is to be more consistent in every aspect of the game."

TXWES had a performance that could be best described an anomaly, hitting a season low -.009. In fact, the Lady Rams have not posted sub-zero numbers since September 26, 2014 in a loss against Park University.  LWC hit .452, and out blocked the Lady Rams 10-2.

Shelby Stinnett had six kills and an ace in the loss. Sasha Robinson posted 14 assists and eight digs. Tierra Coverson had four kills and a pair of blocks for the Lady Rams. Kayla Hayes led the team with 11 digs.

No. 18 Cornerstone (MI) is next on the docket for Texas Wesleyan. The last and only meeting between the Golden Eagles and Lady Rams was in pool play of the 2004 National Championship tournament. Cornerstone was a heavy favorite, but the Lady Rams took a 3-2 win. TXWES would finish pool play at 3-1 and lost in the quarter-final to California Baptist.

This season the Golden Eagles went 27-6 in the regular season and are currently riding a 14-game win streak. Cornerstone earned an automatic bid after winning the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament. The match is scheduled for a noon start on court two in Gateway Arena.
