FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (25-3) advanced to the semifinal match of the 2017 Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament with a straight set win (25-16, 25-9, 27-17) over Southwestern Christian University (16-11) at the Sid Richardson Center on Tuesday.
Â
The Lady Rams hit .402, their best percentage since hitting .455 in a straight set win over the University of Southwest way back on August 18. Their five attacking errors were the lowest of the season.
Â
"I wanted to use this last home game as an opportunity to show that my team has what it takes to go to nationals." said
Brianna Jaramillo after the win. "For us, tonight's game was about having fun and playing all out no matter what. We knew the Eagles would come out with a vengeance, but there was no way we were going to lose on our court."
Â
Although the Eagles played well, the Rams overpowered the six seed with big swings and tough defense. TXWES out-blocked SCU 8-0, but the big difference was the 18 more kills the Rams had over the Eagles.
Â
Brianna Jaramillo was absolutely fantastic in the win. Southwestern Christian had no answer for the senior from Hutto, TX, as she lit up the Eagles for 13 kills, hitting .545 and adding six blocks in the win.
Â
"I went into tonight's game putting all of my trust in my teammates." commented Jaramillo on her performance. "Every point I was able to score is because of them. These girls are the most loving and talented people I've ever played with, and we are going all the way. "
Â
Shelby Stinnett posted nine kills in the win.
Sasha Robinson hit .500 behind seven kills and no errors, while also contributing 29 assists, seven digs, and two blocks for the Rams.
Dana Lohrke notched seven kills, seven digs, four blocks, and a pair of aces.
Kayla Hayes led the team with 11 digs.
Hannah Altman added 14 assists and two aces.
Â
The team's three losses is the lowest total in school history, while their .893 winning percentage is currently the highest in the school history. Â
Â
The Lady Rams will meet up with SAGU in the semi-final match on Friday, November 10 starting at 4:30 p.m. The match will be on neutral grounds as the two teams square off at Abe Lemons Arena in Oklahoma City, OK.
