Wilkins Walk-Off Highlights Day Two Of Cowtown Classic

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (4-3) split the second day of the 2017 Cowtown Classic on Saturday. The Lady Rams came back in walk-off fashion to win a 7-6 game against Bethel College (0-5) before dropping a 4-0 game to the University of Houston-Victoria (4-1).

In the game with Bethel College, the Lady Rams secured a two run lead in the bottom of the first inning. Kayla Prachyl led off the inning with a walk before stealing second and ended up on third after a wild pitch. Lauren Gunter got the runner home with a groundout for a RBI. Mackenzie Kirkpatrick plated another run with a single up the middle for the 2-0 lead.

The Threshers responded with a four run rally after taking advantage of a pair of miscues by the Rams defense. Bethel got one on an error before Trista Rich hit a three run inside the park homerun down the left field line for a 4-2 lead.

The Rams got a run back in the second after Hannah Tomme singled and later scored on an error. The Rams tied the game in the third on a Kaylee Davenport RBI base hit to center field.

The game was knotted up at 4-4 until the Threshers were able to grab a one run lead on a Kiera Broehl RBI double to left.

Lauren Gunter delivered a clutch RBI single to cap a three run sixth, tying the contest at 5 apiece. The TXWES defense held up and Kallee Wilkins came up big with a two out, walk-off base hit to left field to lift the Rams to a 6-5 win in the bottom of the seventh.

Sidney Stewart (1-1) picked up her first win of her collegiate career. The freshman from Forney, TX worked 1.1 innings in relief and held the Threshers to no runs on no hits.

The Rams got behind early to the Jaguars in the second game, as the aggressive Jags successfully stole 8 bases on the way to 4-0 win. Haley Beam subdued the Lady Ram bats, holding Wesleyan to just three hits.

Houston-Victoria got an unearned run on an error for a run in the first before taking three more in the third. Beam helped her cause with a two RBI triple to center for a 4-0 advantage that would end up being the final score.

The Lady Rams will play in the LSU-Alexandria Invitational in Alexandria, LA starting on Friday, February 17. Wesleyan will take on a pair of NCAA DI opponents in Grambling State University at 11:00 a.m. and the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 2:30 p.m.
