FORT WORTH, TX: The UT-Dallas baseball team (3-1) scored all four of its runs in the fifth inning, overcoming a 3-0 deficit on the way to a 4-3 win at Texas Wesleyan University (5-3) on Wednesday.
Julio Ibarra staked the Rams to a 2-0 lead with a 2-run homer to left with one out in the first. A solo shot from
Alex Gudac in the fourth made it 3-0.
UTD rallied in the fifth. An error and an infield single followed by an intentional walk with one out set the table for RBI's from Mitch Barati and Nolan Smith and a two-run, two-out single from Connor Scruggs that gave the Comets a 4-3 lead.
After scoring three runs on their first three hits, the Rams did not collect another safety until a
Kiki Menendez single with two down in the eighth.
The Rams got the winning run on base with two outs in the bottom of the eighth and recorded a pair of singles in the ninth, but could not push across another run.
The Comets used nine pitchers for one inning each. Zach Bomer (1-0) picked up the win after allowing a run on one hit in the fourth inning. Tristin DerMargosian notched his first save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning. The Rams went through eight pitchers themselves.
Evan Rogers (2-1) was tagged with the loss after allowing four runs, three earned, in the fifth.
UTD outhit Texas Wesleyan 9-6.
Julio Ibarra is the lone Ram to hit safely in all eight games this season after going 1-for-4 with a home run.
Blake Seaton has a seven game hitting streak, but did not play on Wednesday, and
Aidan Laurini has recorded a hit in all six games in which he has had an at bat.
Texas Wesleyan returns to action this weekend with a four-game series against McPherson College (KS). The Rams will play doubleheaders beginning at noon on both Saturday and Sunday at Sycamore Park.
