FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (8-3) got a 7-6 extra innings exhibition win in walk-off fashion over Our Lady of the Lake University (6-9) at Sycamore Park on Friday.
Â
The fans in the stands were treated to bonus baseball as the two teams took the 6-6 tie into the tenth inning. The Rams loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the inning and Ibarra slapped a single up the middle past a diving Orlando Collado for the walk-off win.
Â
Starter
Stephen Yancey limited the damage after loading the bases in the first, allowing the Saints just one run on a wild pitch after a three hit inning.
Â
That did not last long though, as
Luis Roman answered with a lead-off homer over the right center fence to tie the game.
Julio Ibarra gave the home team a 2-1 lead on a one out, no-doubter to left field.
Â
The two teams went dark offensively as Yancey and OLLU starter Jordan Hackett found a nice rhythm on the mound for three consecutive innings.
Â
The bats came to life for both teams in the fifth inning, starting with a Matt Beasley three-run home run to left field to make it a 4-2 Saints lead.
Â
Roman answered right on time with another bomb, this time a two-run shot to straight away right field to knot the game at 4-4.
Â
Roman continued his destruction at the plate and broke the tie in the sixth with his fourth RBI of the game on a double off the top of the wall in left.
Blake Seaton followed that with a double into left center to make it a 6-4 cushion.
Â
OLLU put up a run in the seventh and eighth, tying the game on a Connor Kalisky double down the left field line.
Â
The game stayed at 6-6 in the ninth, pushing the game to extras.
Alex Davis (1-0) grounded out the side in the top of the tenth to give his offense a chance.
Aidan Laurini led the inning with a walk to make way for a Roman base hit to the shallow right center gap. The Saints intentionally walked
Blake Seaton to load the bases, and Ibarra ended things with the walk-off base hit.
Â
Roman was triple shy of the cycle, going 4 for 5 with a pair of home runs, four RBI, and three runs scored. Ibarra went 3 for 6 with a home run and two RBI.
Â
The two teams will meet tomorrow in a double header starting at noon at Sycamore Park. Â Â
