FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (11-3) swept a double header from Our Lady of the Lake University (6-11) at Sycamore Park on Saturday. The Rams topped the Saints 6-4 before taking a 6-0 win in game two.
Â
Texas Wesleyan never trailed in either game and out hit the Saints 16-13, tightening up the defense when needed and got tremendous help from the starting pitchers.
Â
Matt Mihalov started game one with a burner down the right field line that led to runners at second on third, but Ram starter
Andrew O'Brien struck out two in a row to hold the Saints in check.
Â
CJ Ateek got a hold of one in the second inning for an opposite field double to left before
Dylan Measells cracked a RBI shot to right center to put the Rams on the board. A Saints mishap allowed the inning to continue and TXWES took advantage.
Chase Sliva added another on a RBI floater over the second baseman, and
Luis Roman continued the rally with a RBI double just inside the right field line.
Blake Seaton plated a run on a sacrifice fly, and OLLU gave up another on an error to make it a 5-0 Ram lead.
Â
Our Lady of the Lake made a dent in the lead with a three-run, four hit fifth inning to cut the Wesleyan lead to just two runs.
Â
The Saints tacked on another run in the sixth after loading the bases with no outs. Orlando Collado did his job with a hopper in the hole at shortstop for one run, but were turned away by reliever
Alex Davis and the Rams to hold a 5-4 edge.
Â
Texas Wesleyan added an insurance run, but Davis did not need it, securing the victory to earn his first save of the season.
Â
In game two,
Aidan Laurini got the Rams on the board in the first inning with a RBI liner into right for an early lead.
Caden Williams followed that up with a two out moon shot to left for a 3-0 advantage.
Â
Casey Moses added a run in the fourth on a laser shot that beat the right fielder to the wall. Ibarra plated one more on a sacrifice fly to center for a 5-0 advantage.
Â
Starter
Alex Lopez was perfect through four and a third, and although OLLU threatened to score with runners in scoring position with one away, the righty got out of the inning unscathed.
Â
Moses went déjà vu in the fifth with another RBI double to right field to give the Rams a 6-0 cushion that would turn into the final.Â
Â
Lopez went the distance and moved to 2-0 in a complete game shutout win. The senior from Ovilla, TX allowed just two hits, walked none, and struck out five.
Â
The Rams will be back in action on Tuesday, February 28 when they face LSU-Shreveport at 2:00 p.m. at Sycamore Park.Â
