FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (10-5) dropped both ends of a doubleheader with LSU-Shreveport (13-3) at Sycamore Park on Tuesday.
In game one, the Rams struck first with a two-out RBI single from
Alex Gudac in the second inning, but Matthew Hammock staked LSUS to a 3-1 lead with a three-run home run in the fourth.
The Rams put together a rally in the fifth. A leadoff single from
Casey Moses and walks to
Kiki Menendez and
CJ Ateek loaded the bases with one out.
Aidan Laurini pinch-hit and drove in a run, but LSUS' Renny Tolentino came out of the bullpen to record the final out with no further damage.
Landon Lewis (1-0) picked up the win after going 3.1 and allowing a run on five hits. Tolentino notched his second save of the season with 2.1 scoreless innings.
Evan Rogers (3-2) took the tough-luck loss. Rogers made just one mistake on the day while allowing three runs on five hits in five innings pitched.
Casey Moses went 3-for-3 at the plate, while the Rams outhit the Pilots 8-5.
In game two, the Pilots got on the board first with RBI's from Ryan Pouwells and Kevin Rosario in the top of the third.
The Rams got one back in the fourth, when
Kiki Menendez doubled and scored, but LSUS broke things open in the fifth. The Pilots sent ten men to the plate and scored seven runs on five hits, two walks, and a hit batter to take a commanding 9-1 lead.
Nick Gonzales (1-0) earned the win after allowing an unearned run on four hits in four innings pitched.
Alex Davis (0-1) took the loss after surrendering two runs on five hits in three innings of work.
Kiki Menendez was 2-for-3 in the game-two loss.
The Rams will open conference play with a three game series at Mid-America Christian University this weekend. Friday's opener is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. start while Saturday's doubleheader will begin at noon.
