PRIMM, NV: The 13th ranked Texas Wesleyan University women's golf team posted a third place finish in a power-packed field at the Battle at Primm hosted by Grand View College (IA) at Primm Valley Golf Club.
Fully eight of the squads in the field of 15 teams are currently ranked in the NAIA's top-15. The Lady Rams matched up favorable and turned in cards of 301 and 307 to finish third.
No. 2 Keiser led the Rams by just two shots after the first round, then turned in a final round 289 to secure the win at +12 (588) for the tournament. No. 9 Embry-Riddle (AZ) also turned in a pair of sub-300 rounds and placed second at 593.
At 608, the Rams led No. 7 British Columbia (617), No. 15 Indiana Tech (625), Victoria (631), No. 8 William Carey (634), No. 14 Thomas (639), and No. 11 SCAD-Atlanta (641).
British Columbia's Kat Kennedy closed with a sparkling round of 67 on Tuesday to take the win amongst 78 individuals at 3-under par, one shot better than Indiana Tech's Courtney Dye.
Alex Schies shot even par on Tuesday on the par-72, 5,938-yard course. Combined with an opening round 75, she finished tied for 7th at +3.
Maisy Turner placed 14th at 153.
Jacey Patton tied for 18th (155) and
Elena Sinde Romero finished 27th (157).
Trudy Allen came back from a tough first round where puts weren't falling to contribute a second round of 77 and finish 40th.
The Rams have one more tune-up on the schedule before playing in the Sooner Athletic Conference Championship April 24-25. They will take part in Oklahoma City University's O-City Classic at Lincoln Park, April 10-11.
Ramblings
- The Rams' first round 301 marked the fifth best round in the young history of the program, while Turner and Schies' cards of 72 is tied for the ninth best individual round.
- The Rams extended their streak to 14 consecutive top-10 finishes.
- Texas Wesleyan has posted five top-5 finishes in six tournaments this season.
