Lady Rams Drop Two At SGU; Cavs Steal Game Two With 4-3 Walk-Off

SHAWNEE, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (16-12, 4-6 SAC) was shutout in a 6-0 game before ending up on the bitter end of a 4-3 final inning walk-off with Saint Gregory's University (13-9, 7-5 SAC) at the Ballfields at Firelake on Friday.

In game one, the Cavaliers opened scoring with a pair of runs in the first inning, and put up crooked numbers in the second and the fourth to take a commanding 6-0 lead.

The Lady Rams could only muster three infield hits in game one. Demi Dotson posted an infield single in the third inning, Dani Jackson earned a base hit to third in the fourth, and Kayla Prachyl slapped a single to shortstop in the sixth.

The Cavs kept their opponent off the board long enough to take a 6-0 win in seven innings.

Bryn Houlton earned the shutout for SGU. Brittany Rosenberry (7-4) suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs with a walk and a strikeout in two innings of work.

TXWES started game two on the right foot, starting with a Prachyl lead-off single to shallow left-center.  Jackson zoomed out an infield hit before a passed ball allowed one run to score. Samantha Vasquez knocked in another on a shot down the left field line for an early 2-0 edge.

Lauren Miller doubled down the right field line to put the Cavaliers on the board in the bottom of the first, but Prachyl singled home another run for the Rams in the top of the second for a 3-1 advantage.

St. Gregory's cut the lead to one in the fourth inning on a Jessica Nelson RBI single to down the left field line. The Cavs would load the bases but the Ram defense held strong, getting two out at the plate to protect the lead.

With one away in the bottom of the seventh, Sutv Meely knocked a triple in the right-center gap, putting the tying run 60 feet away. Baylee Hughes reached on a walk before Sammy Leisinger hit a walk-off double to right-center as the Cavs escaped with a 4-3 win.

Prachyl went 2 for 4 with a RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base. Jackson was 2 for 3, while Vasquez was 1 for 3 with a RBI in the loss.

Justine Cielenski (2-1) suffered the loss. She threw 6.1 innings, allowed four runs on seven hits, with two walks and a pair of strikeouts.

The Lady Rams will stay in Oklahoma, traveling to Muskogee, OK tomorrow for a conference double header with Bacone College. First pitch of game one is set for a noon start.
