FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (13-6) racked up 17 hits including four home runs during a 15-1 win over Austin College (4-12) at Sycamore Park on Tuesday.
The Roos picked up an unearned run in the top of the first, but the Rams were off and running in the bottom of the frame.
The inning started with a walk to
Casey Moses and a single from
Blake Seaton. After Moses scored on a balk,
Luis Roman walked and
Julio Ibarra delivered a three-run home run off the batter's eye in center field.
Andrew O'Brien worked around a two-out triple in the second to hold the score at 4-1, and the Rams pulled away in the third. The inning started with a double from
Luis Roman, a single from Ibarra, an RBI double from
Aidan Laurini, and an RBI single from
Dylan Measells. Two batters later,
Kiki Menendez added an RBI single, and the Rams led 7-1.
In the fourth,
Blake Seaton,
Luis Roman, and
Julio Ibarra greeted a new AC reliever with back-to-back-to-back home runs on three consecutive pitches. That was just the start of a 7-run outburst that featured 12 batters and also included a double from Measells, an RBI single from Menendez, and two more RBI from Seaton and Roman.
An RBI double from
Mason Rodriguez in the sixth capped the scoring at 15-1.
Ibarra was 3-for-4 with two home runs, four RBI, and three runs scored. Both of his home runs went to centerfield, with the second clearing the batter's eye. Roman was 3-for-3 and was a triple shy of the cycle with two RBI and three runs scored. Measells was 3-for-4, and Seaton was 2-for-4 at the plate. Nine different Rams hit safely during the contest.
The offensive output marked the Rams highest scoring game since plating 20 runs against St. Gregory's on March 20, 2015. The Rams had not had four home runs in a game since touching off five against SAGU on May 4, 2014. Individually, the Rams had not had a multi-homer game since Jake Howeth against Wayland Baptist on April 24, 2015.
Andrew O'Brien (4-0) worked five innings in the win and allowed just an unearned run on five hits while striking out five. Oscar Gonzalez (0-2) took the loss after allowing seven runs on eight hits in three innings pitched.
The Rams are back in action this weekend when they host No. 17 University of Science & Arts (OK) in a Sooner Athletic Conference series at Sycamore Park. Friday's series opener is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. start. Saturday's doubleheader is set for a 12:00 p.m. first-pitch.
