OKLAHOMA CITY, OK: The 10th ranked Texas Wesleyan University women's golf team closed out the regular season with a second place finish at 3rd ranked Oklahoma City University's O City Classic on Tuesday. The tournament was played at Lincoln Park.
After a tough opening round 316, the Rams posted very solid cards in rounds two and three with scores of 305 and 308.
Oklahoma City easily outdistanced the field of 11 teams by shooting +22 (886) for the tournament while not posting a score of 300 or more.
The Rams entered the final day tied with fellow Sooner Athletic Conference member Southwestern Christian; however the Eagles fell off to a final round score of 327. The Lady Rams meanwhile closed out with all five players breaking 80 on Tuesday. They turned in a score of 308 to hold off Iowa Western College for second place by a seven stroke margin.
Oklahoma City's Caroline Goodin shot -2 on Tuesday on the par 72 (5,950 yard) course to take the win amongst 72 individuals. Goodin finished at +1 for the tournament, one shot better than Iowa Western's Cassidy Evreniadis.
The Rams were led by
Alex Schies who finished 7th at +8. Schies was a consistent 75-74-75-224 for the tournament.
Maisy Turner and
Trudy Allen tied for 17th (233).
Jacey Patton tied for 30th and
Elena Sinde Romero finished tied for 33rd.
Jaci Trotter and
Jacinda Chan played the tournament as individuals and finished tied for 35th and 37th respectively.
The Rams will return to action April 24-25 at the Sooner Athletic Conference Championship which will be held at Gallardia Country Club in Oklahoma City.
Ramblings
- This was Texas Wesleyan's second appearance in the O City Spring Classic. They finished fifth in the event last season.
- The Lady Rams extended their streak to 15 consecutive top-10 finishes.
- In seven tournaments this season, the Rams have notched six top-5 finishes.
