WAXAHACHIE, TX: The 13th ranked Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (34-11, 14-5 SAC) opened a Sooner Athletic Conference series against Southwestern Assemblies of God University (15-30, 6-13 SAC) with an 11-0 victory on Friday.
The Rams touched off three home runs, giving the team eight in the last two games.
A two-out RBI single from
Kiki Menendez got the Rams on the board in the top of the first, and Menendez later made it 3-0 with a two-run homer in the third inning.
A pair of three-run bombs from
Caden Williams and
Julio Ibarra highlighted an 8-run fifth inning that put the game out of reach at 11-0.
Meanwhile
Stephen Yancey notched his fifth complete game and first shutout of the season. The junior from North Richland Hills allowed only two base runners to reach third base.
SAGU put runners at the corners with one out in the first, but Yancey induced an inning-ending double play. A leadoff triple in the fifth looked like trouble, but third baseman
Luis Roman nailed Tanner Lindle at the plate and Yancey promptly ended the threat with a 1-4-3 double play.
Yancey (8-3) scattered seven hits over the seven innings while walking one and striking out four. Spenser Hart (0-3) took the loss after allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits in two innings pitched.
Menendez was 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run and three RBI.
Casey Moses also went 3-for-4, while
Blake Seaton had two hits in three trips to the plate.
The Highway 287 series now makes the short trip north to Fort Worth. The two teams will play a doubleheader at Sycamore Park on Saturday. Game one is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
