No. 1 Stars Snap Lady Rams' 7 Game Win Streak

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team snapped a seven game win streak and  took a pair of losses to No. 1 Oklahoma City University at Ann Lacy Stadium on Sunday. The Stars grabbed an 8-0 win in game one before taking a 7-1 win in game two.

Bailey Terry started the game off with a two out double down the left field line to give the NAIA's fifth ranked ERA leader (0.79) Georgia Wall pause for concern, but the Lady Rams were turned away in the first inning.

Texas Wesleyan did not get too many chances after that, as OCU scored six run in the first two innings.

Shelby Reddington notched a one out single through the left side in the second inning, but that would be the last hit allowed by the Stars.

Oklahoma City posted two more runs in the fourth to make it 8-0, and the run-rule came into effect in the fifth to break the Lady Rams seven game win streak.

Brittany Rosenberry (7-6) suffered the loss the Stars got to her early. Terry went 1 for 1 with a double and a walk. Reddington went 1 for 2.

In game two, the Lady Rams took advantage of an early error to grab a 1-0 lead in the first. Bailey Terry smacked an infield single and advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch by Abby Meador. Lauren Gunter knocked one into left field to move the runner to third, and a fielding error by the left fielder allowed the run to score.

Oklahoma City was able to tie the game in the bottom of the inning, but the Rams did an excellent job of limiting the damage with one out and the bases loaded. McRae Cayton singled up the middle to drive in the tying run before Terry grabbed a hot shot out of mid-air and quickly rifled it over to Reddington covering first to complete the inning-ending double play.

The tie was broken by the Stars with a two run third inning. Although Justine Cielenski limited the top ranked team to four runs in the first five innings, OCU rallied in the sixth for three more runs. That gave the home team a 7-1 lead that would be the eventual final.

Cielenski (5-2) suffered just her second loss of the season, throwing 5.1 innings, allowing 7 runs (six earned) on eight hits. Kayla Prachyl went 1 for 3 with an extra base hit. Terry went 1 for 3 with a run scored. Gunter was 1 for 2 with a walk.

The Lady Rams will head to Bethany, OK to continue their road trip with Southwestern Christian University tomorrow, April 24. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
