Lady Rams Score Walk-Off, Comeback Wins Over Cavaliers

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (27-18, 15-11 SAC) took two wins from St. Gregory's University (22-14, 16-10 SAC) at Sycamore Park on Friday. Bailey Terry lifted the Rams to a 4-3 walk-off win in game one before coming from behind to take a 6-4 game two win.

The Lady Rams put up a three spot in the second, starting with a Lauren Gunter liner up the middle.  Hannah Tomme gave herself up to advance runners on sacrifice bunt before Shelby Reddington singled the first run home. Samantha Vasquez found a hole in the infield for a RBI base hit. Kayla Prachyl capped the inning with a RBI drive to center.

Crystal Pablo put the Cavaliers on the board in the in the fourth with a solo shot that sailed over the center field fence.

The Cavaliers tied the game with a two-run sixth. Lauren Miller got SGU within one run in the sixth with a RBI single hit squarely in the gap in right-center before Baylee Hughes lifted a shot deep enough for a RBI sacrifice to left to even the game at 3 apiece.

The game was still knotted up in the bottom of the seventh, but the Lady Rams defended home their turf. Kaylee Davenport led off the inning with an opposite field floater into shallow right. Prachyl stayed hot with a smash up the middle to put the go-ahead run at third. Bailey Terry knew exactly what to do in a high pressure spot and dropped a ball into right field to score the winning in walk-off fashion.

Prachyl was 3 for 4 with one RBI. Vasquez finished 2 for 3 with one RBI. Lauren Wernet picked up the win in 1.1 scoreless innings of relief. She allowed just two hits, had no walks, and sat down three.

In game two, the Cavaliers jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in the third inning. Pablo posted her second home run of the day for two runs before the third run scored on a wild pitch.

St. Gregoy's added an insurance run in the fifth on a throw down to third that trickled into the outfield, allowing Bryanne Knox to make a 4-0 game.

TXWES got white hot in the fifth. The Lady Rams started the five hit inning with two consecutive infield hits from Prachyl and Jackson. Terry let the good times roll and showed how dangerous a hitter she is by launching a moon shot to left-center for a three-run homer.  Gunter followed that with a rocket to left-center for a two-bagger. Vasquez put an exclamation on the inning with a two-run picturesque home run down the left field line to give the Rams a 5-4 edge.

The Cavaliers got a double in the sixth from Sutv Meely, then she advanced to third with one out, but Wernet got the four and five hole hitters to pop-up and strikeout respectively to keep the lead.

Jackson gave the Lady Rams an insurance run in the sixth with a sacrifice fly to center, and the Texas Wesleyan defense navigated safely through a bases loaded, three hit SGU seventh on the way to a 6-4 win.

Jackson was 2 for 3 with a RBI. Vasquez went 1 for 1 with a pair of RBI and a home run. Terry Gunter went 2 for 3 in the win.
