Lady Rams Sweep SAGU: Cielenski Grabs First Complete Game Shut Out

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (19-14, 7-7 SAC) took a season sweep of Southwestern Assemblies of God University (10-26, 2-12 SAC) with a 3-0 game one win and an 11-1 win in game two at Sycamore Park on Thursday.

The all-time series now stands at 21-2 in favor of the Rams after taking all four regular season games.

Game one was deadlocked in a nil-nil tie for four and a half innings. The Lady Rams stranded the bases loaded on a two hit inning in the second, but finally broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth. Hannah Tomme sprinted out an infield single that led to a Kayla Prachyl RBI rip to center field for the 1-0 edge.

The Rams made the Lions pay for a lead-off error in the sixth. Shelby Reddington plated a run on a RBI fielder's choice before another SAGU mishap allowed a second run to cross for a 3-0 advantage.

Justine Cielenski (4-1) handled the Lions, tossing her first collegiate complete game shutout. The freshman from Lockport, IL allowed just two hits and three walks, while striking out five.

The Lady Rams jumped on top early in game two, taking three runs in the first. Kaylee Davenport drove in two on a base hit to center to cap the first.

The Rams then posted five consecutive hits in the third, leading to four more runs. Bailey Terry hit a worm burner through the right side for two RBI before a Lauren Gunter RBI base hit to left made it a 7-1 lead.

Terry struck a well hit through the left side in the third for another two RBI in the third. Dani Jackson scored on a wild pitch before Gunter smashed a double deep down the left field line to cap the scoring at 11-1.

Brittany Rosenberry (6-5) earned the win. She threw three innings, allowing one run on three hits, and struck out two.

Terry went 2 for 2 with four RBI and three runs scored. She also had two steals in the win. Gunter went 2 for 3 with a pair of RBI. Davenport went 1 for 3 with two RBI.

The Lady Rams will take on Southwestern Christian University tomorrow, April, 7 at Sycamore Park. Game one of the conference double header is set for a 2:00 p.m. start.
