Rams Fall 1-0 at Wiley in Season Opener

MARSHALL, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University men's soccer team (0-1) dropped a 1-0 decision in rainy conditions at Wiley College (1-1) in their season opener on Sunday.
 
The lone goal of the contest came off the foot of Wiley's Jonathan Palomo just 4:17 before halftime.
 
The Rams got a solid performance from Bastian Blumenberg (Fr., Santiago, Chile) who made his collegiate debut in goal.  Blumenberg made seven saves against eight shots on goal.
 
Luis Pumarejo, Tyler Brooks, and Kian Hosseinpour each had a pair of shots as the Rams were outshot 15-10.  The foul count was 8-5 favoring the Wildcats, while corner kick opportunities also favored Wiley 2-1.
 
The game was played in very wet conditions as Marshall received steady rain throughout the day.
 
The Rams will play one more road contest at Texas A&M-Texarkana on Tuesday ahead of their home opener against Jarvis Christian on Friday.
 
Ramblings
 
- Texas Wesleyan is 14-14-1 all-time on Opening Day.  The loss snapped a two-game Opening Day winning streak.
 
- The Rams are under the direction of rookie head coach Cole Sweetser who will have to wait one more game for his first win as a collegiate head coach.
