TEXARKANA, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men's soccer team (0-2) suffered a 4-1 loss at Texas A&M-Texarkana (2-1) on Tuesday.
The Rams outshot the Eagles 20-15 in the contest, but Texarkana's Zak McCarthy came up with 12 saves while the Eagles' offense capitalized on their opportunities.
The Eagles found the net just 2:13 into the contest with the first of two goals from Vinsent Nestorov. Four minutes before halftime, a goal from Kyle Wisnewski made it 2-0 at the break.
Texas Wesleyan's defense stiffened in the second half and allowed only four shots after the intermission. Unfortunately two of those shots, Oscar Herrera in the 56th minute and Nestorov in the 71st minute, both hit the back of the net.
Texas Wesleyan freshman
Tyler Brooks (Mansfield, TX) recorded his first collegiate goal and the team's first goal of the young season in the 64th minute.
Texas Wesleyan will play its home opener on Friday, when the Rams host Jarvis Christian College. That game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start.
