Â
The Lady Rams hit .286 in the first set, but averaged just .086 in the next three sets as the Lions topped TXWES for the first time since October 8, 2013. The Rams had won eight straight against SAGU coming into the night and looked poised to keep the streak alive.
Â
Dana Lohrke and
Brianna Jaramillo hammered home four kills each to lead the Rams in the first set. The score was tied 11 times in the opening frame before a
Sasha Robinson kill led to a SAGU attacking error to seal the set.
Â
The teams battled in the second, but the Lions controlled the game well enough to preserve a slight lead despite
Shelby Stinnett firing seven kills in the set. SAGU carried momentum into the remaining two sets, consistently finding new ways to score on the Ram defense.
Â
The Lions were led by Jessica Sodich, who had 21 kills and 19 digs on the night, and Sophia Ivy, who tallied 48 assists and 10 digs in the win.
Â
The Lady Rams were led Stinnett with 16 kills and 11 digs. Lohrke finished with 12 kills.
Tierra Coverson, the conference leader in blocks, posted seven kills and seven block assists. Robinson turned in a monster game dishing the ball for 40 assists and grabbing a career high 31 digs. Her previous career high was 26. Â
Â
TXWES leads the all-time series against SAGU, 27-7.
Â
The Lady Rams will look to rebound in San Antonio, TX when they take on Our Lady of the Lake University (1-3) on Friday, September 8 starting at 6:00 p.m.
