Box Score LANGSTON, OK - Texas Wesleyan University Volleyball (14-7, 9-2 SAC) crushed the Langston Lions (4-16, 1-10 SAC) Friday night in Oklahoma, 25-12, 25-20, 25-13 behind 11 kills from
Tierra Coverson and 18 assists from
Brenda Pargas.
The Lady Rams hit .380, including a smooth .520 in Set 3 that included 15 kills and just two errors. They trailed just twice all evening, by one point each in the early stages of Set 1. Texas Wesleyan's strong night stemmed from a big advantage in blocks (11-3) and in attacking (.380-.020).
Dana Lohrke added 10 kills on just 15 attacks and
Brittni Mohle returned to contribute seven kills along with four digs.
Pargas and
Sasha Robinson split setting duties, finishing with 18 and 16 assists, respectively.Â
Texas Wesleyan went on a 10-0 run in Set 1 to eliminate an 8-7 deficit, transforming it into a 17-8 advantage. A key point in Set 3 broke the Lions' back. With the Rams up 12-8, Texas Wesleyan and Langston combined for eight different attacks, while the Rams saved losing a point along the way. The point ended with a Langston attacking error, prompting a Lion timeout. The positive results continued for the Rams, scoring the next four points, including two Coverson kills.
Defensively, a whole team of Rams contributed. Pargas led with eight digs, but Robinson had six,
Naomi Tanaka and
Jasmine Creek had five and
Ashley Curry dug three shots while
Brianna Sitton, the team's defensive leader, got the night off.
It was the eighth conference straight-sets win for the Lady Rams, nearing the mark of 10, 3-0 triumphs the team notched in 2017.
