UTD Takes Midweek Game from Rams

FORT WORTH, TX:  The 23rd ranked Texas Wesleyan University Baseball team (5-2) suffered a 7-1 loss at the hands of UT Dallas (1-4) at Sycamore Park on Wednesday.

The Rams never managed to mount a significant offensive rally against seven UTD pitchers.

The Comets scratched a run in the third inning and then opened a 4-0 lead with three runs in the fifth.  That inning started with three consecutive singles.  With two outs, Luke Richter delivered the big blow with a two-run single.

UTD made it 5-0 in the sixth before the Rams got on the board in the bottom of the inning.  CJ Ateek drew a one-out walk, and singles from Ryan Breaud and Ted Wisdom loaded the bases.  Ateek scored on a groundout from Kiki Menendez and UTD escaped without further damage.

UTD added single runs in the seventh and eighth to account for the 7-1 final.

The Comets pounded out 17 hits (14 of them singles), while the Rams collected nine safeties.  Third baseman Joseph Barfield turned in an unblemished pitching line, allowing just a base hit in a scoreless ninth inning.

Menendez was 2-for-4 with an RBI in the loss.

The Rams are scheduled to host Bacone College in a three-game Sooner Athletic Conference series this weekend.  Saturday's opener is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start with Sunday's doubleheader set for a 12:00 p.m first pitch.
