FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University Baseball team (2-1) took the rubber-match of a season opening three-game series with Bethany College (1-2) at Sycamore Park on Sunday. The Rams rallied from a 3-0 deficit to take a 5-3 win.
The Swedes got a three-run homerun from Max Diaz with two outs in the top of the first to jump out to a 3-0 lead.
The Rams got on the board in the third with a sac fly from
Michael Davila, but a bases-loaded one-out situation yielded just the one run.
Ted Wisdom led off the bottom of the fourth with a triple to the gap in right-center and then scored on a wild pitch, cutting the margin to a single run.
The Rams threatened again in the fifth. A double from
Kiki Menendez and a single from Davila put runners at second and third with one-out, but the Swedes worked out of the jam with back-to-back strikeouts
Bethany loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh, but
Alex Davis magically worked out of the jam with a strikeout and a 1-2-3-5-2 double-play. The Rams took full advantage of the defensive stop.
Donnie Lopez led off the bottom of the seventh with a game-tying home run, and two batters later, Davila delivered a two-run single to put the Rams on top 5-3.
Davila was 2-for-2 with a walk, a sac fly, and three RBI in the win. Lopez (2-4), Menendez (2-3), and Wisdom (2-4) each had a pair of hits as well.
Alex Davis (1-0) picked up the win with three scoreless innings of relief work. Davis allowed two hits, walked none, and struck out three.
The Rams will host Jarvis Christian College in a three-game series at Sycamore Park Friday and Saturday. Friday's opener is scheduled for a 2:00 pm start. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 12:00 pm and feature the presentation of the SABR Metroplex College Player of the Year award to
