Drovers Take Rubber Match 7-3

CHICKASHA, OK:  The Texas Wesleyan University Baseball team (13-6, 7-2 SAC) suffered a 7-3 loss at 10th ranked University of Science & Arts (17-2, 5-1 SAC) on Saturday.  With the win, the Drovers took the three-game Sooner Athletic Conference series 2-1.

The Rams jumped on the Drovers for two runs in the first inning.  With two outs, Kiki Menendez stretched his current hitting streak to 17 games, touching off his fifth home run of the season.  Donnie Lopez followed with a single and later scored on a base hit from Kaden Brown.

USAO responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first.  Miguel Lorenzo led off the inning with a home run and Coleton Horner gave the Drovers the lead with a two-run single.

USAO put another three runs on the board in the fourth inning.  Texas Wesleyan cut the margin to 6-3 when Logan Bistrup led off the sixth with a single and scored on a sac fly from Menendez.

The Rams loaded the bases in the eighth, but Angel Reyes got out of the jam and preserved the lead for the Drovers.

Reyes turned in three innings of scoreless relief to pick up his second save of the season.  Corey Korenic (2-0) tossed two innings to earn the win.

Menendez was 1-for-4 at the plate with a home run and two RBI.  Birstup went 2-for-3 at the plate in the loss.

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday, when they travel to Shreveport, LA, to take on LSU-Shreveport.  Game one of that doubleheader is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
