SHREVEPORT, LA: The 18th ranked Texas Wesleyan University Baseball team (14-7) recovered from an 8-0 deficit to win 13-10 in game two of a doubleheader at LSU-Shreveport (16-11) on Tuesday. The Rams earned a split of the doubleheader as the Pilots took game one 6-3.
LSUS put eight runs on the board in the first inning, while the Rams went on to score in every inning except the first. The 8-run outburst was highlighted by a pair of bombs, one a three-run shot from Jordan Trahan and the other a grand slam form Kevin VanAsselberg.
The Rams regrouped and put three runs on the board in the top of the second including a two-run double from
Kaden Brown. A pair of unearned runs in the third cut the margin to 8-5.
The teams traded runs in the fourth.
Logan Bistrup singled and scored for the Rams, and Brenden Meade homered for the Pilots.
Donnie Lopez and
Michael Davila led off the fifth with back-to-back singles and both runs came across to cut the margin to a single run at 9-8. Lopez then tied the game in the sixth with an RBI single.
In the top of the seventh, the first four Texas Wesleyan hitters eventually scored. Davila and
Nick Asaro drew walks, while
Ryan Breaud and
Joseph Barfield both singled.
The Pilots mustered a run in the bottom of the seventh, but
Alex Davis closed the door on the 13-10 victory.
Davis (3-1) allowed a run on three hits in two innings of relief work. Davis,
Chris Terry and
Parker Robinson combined to deliver 6.1 innings of relief in which they allowed three runs on five hits.
Donnie Lopez went 4-for-4 in the win, while
Kaden Brown,
Ryan Breaud and
Joseph Barfield all went 2-for-4 as the Rams piled up 13 hits.
In game one, the Pilots limited the Rams to five hits while scoring six runs on 11 hits.
Lopez collected three of Texas Wesleyan's five hits, making him 7-for-8 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored on the day.
Trace Francis (2-0) tossed five innings and allowed two runs on four hits to pick up the win.
Joseph Barfield (0-1) earned the start, but was tagged with the loss after allowing three runs on five hits in three innings or work.
The Rams are back in action on Wednesday, when they host LSU-Alexandria at Sycamore Park. That game is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start.

- LSU-Shreveport leads the all-time series between the two schools 24-18. The Rams lead LSU-Alexandria 10-3 all-time.
- By going 7-for-8 on Tuesday,
Donnie Lopez raised his batting average by 88 points and now ranks second on the team at .377 on the season. His average skyrocketed from from .289 (13-45) to .377 (20-53).

Alex Davis currently leads the team with a 2.18 ERA in 12 outings. His .178 opponents' batting average is also the lowest amongst pitchers with at least 20 innings of work.
