FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (9-5) trounced Midland University (6-5) with a 10-1, five inning run-rule in the home opener and day one of the 2018 TXWES Spring Break Classic at Sycamore Park on Saturday.
Â
The Lady Rams were finally able to play in the friendly confines of their home turf, and they made the most it. TXWES rattled off 10 runs on 13 hits, scoring four runs in the fourth and fifth innings, including two home runs by
Bailey Terry, on the way to a controlling win.
Â
The Warriors took an early first inning lead, after a Lady Ram error allowed a run to score.
Â
Midland took the lead into the third inning, but the Warriors were bit by an error that allowed the Lady Rams to take the lead.
Kayla Prachyl and
Demi Dotson put up a nice one-two punch with a pair of hits to start the inning. Terry moved Dotson into scoring position before Sutton reached on an error that allowed two runs to cross for a 2-1 edge.
Â
Terry launched an opposite field, line drive over the right field wall for a three run home run in the fourth. The Lady Rams were not satisfied though, as three more hits in the inning led to a
Tobi Bonifacio RBI liner into left to make it a 7-1 game.
Â
Prachyl did more damage in the fifth, with a two RBI double hit squarely in the gap in left center. Terry ended things with a legitimate moon shot well past the left field fence to activate the run-rule for the win.
Â
Lauren Wernet (4-2) posted the win. The senior from West, TX went five scoreless innings, allowed one run (none earned) on five hits, walked none, and struck out one.
Â
Terry led the way offensively, going 3 for 3 with four RBI and two home runs. Prachyl stayed hot in the lead-off spot, going 3 for 3 with two RBI and three runs scored.
Taylor Sutton and Bonifacio each contributed a RBI, and
Savannah Brixey went 2 for 3 with a pair of runs scored in the effort. Â
Â
The Lady Rams will continue with a four game slate tomorrow, March 11. The Lady Rams will play two games with UT – Permian Basin starting at 10:00 a.m. before taking on the Midland Warriors in a double header starting at 2:00 p.m.
