Lady Rams Double Up Warriors; Prachyl Walks-Off, Wernet Gets Shutout

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (13-6, 2-0 SAC) picked up a pair of SAC wins over Bacone College (5-17, 1-5 SAC) at Sycamore Park on Wednesday. Kayla Prachyl hit a walk-off to win game one 5-4, while Lauren Wernet blanked the Warriors in a 9-0 game two win.

In game one, the Warriors took a 3-1 lead in the second after Tayla Topaha and Chelsea Kaiser hit a pair of RBI base hits to cap a five hit inning.

Tobi Bonifacio got a run back in the third, and then tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth with a RBI single to left field.

That is where the score stayed into the eighth, when Bacone broke the tie after a throwing error allowed a run to score to make it 4-3 in favor of the visiting team.

The Lady Rams were backed up against the wall in the bottom of the eighth with two outs, but Hailey Hollingsworth wore a pitch to put the go-ahead run at first. Right on cue, Prachyl laid into one, shooting the ball into left center, deep enough for the speedy Hollingsworth to race around the bases to score the winning run in walk-off fashion.

Bonifacio went 3 for 4 with a trio of RBI. Prachyl went 2 for 4 with two RBI that represented the tying and walk-off runs.

Makenna Aycock (4-1) earned the win in 6.1 innings of relief work. She allowed one unearned run on four hits, walked three, and struck out seven for the Lady Rams in game one.

In game two, the Lady Rams overwhelmed the opposition for seven runs in the third inning to set up a two-run home run by Sutton over the left field wall to end the game.

Jenna Rhoades hit a two-run double to left-center to start the scoring drive in the third inning. Sutton added a run with a single through the left side before Wernet sent a shot to right-center for a run. Bonifacio capped the rally with bases-clearing three-run bomb to left.

In the sixth, Samantha Bastien reached base on a pinch hit single into shallow center before Sutton blasted a ball over the left field fence.

Sutton went 3 for 4 with three RBI and a two-run home run to activate the run-rule. Bonfacio went 1 for 3 with a three-run home run.

Wernet (6-3) tossed the complete game shutout. She allowed just one hit, allowed no free passes, and sat down one in the win.

The Lady Rams will be back in action on Sunday, March 18 to take on Friends University in a double header starting at 10:00 a.m. at Sycamore Park.
