Rams Open Series with Crusaders with 9-0 Win

FORT WORTH, TX:  The 18th ranked Texas Wesleyan University Baseball team (19-7) ran its winning streak to seven games with a decisive 9-0 victory over Dallas Christian College (2-18) at Sycamore Park on Friday.
 
A Crusader error in the second gave the Rams an early 1-0 lead.  Kiki Menendez singled in the third and scored on a base hit from Donnie Lopez to make it 2-0.
 
The Rams gained some separation in the fifth and then put the game out of reach in the sixth.  In the fifth, Ted Wisdom, Donnie Lopez and Jacob Barfield started things off with a double, triple and double respectively while the Rams put three runs on the board.  Wisdom drilled a two-run triple in the sixth, and the Rams scored three more to push the score to 8-0.
 
Ryan Breaud led off the seventh with a double and scored on a single from Chandler Schoelkopf to cap the scoring at 9-0.
 
Stephen Yancey (6-2) matched his career-high with 10 strikeouts while tossing eight shutout innings.  He allowed just three singles and did not allow a runner to advance past second base.
 
Lopez collected three of the Rams' 14 hits with a single, double and triple in the win.  Barfield was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, and Wisdom went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple.  Kiki Menendez stayed hot as well, going 2-for-4 at the plate.
 
The Rams and Crusaders will complete their three-game series with a doubleheader at Sycamore Park on Saturday.  Game one is set for a 12:00 p.m. first pitch.
 
Ramblings
 
- Yancey struck out 10 in a season-opening victory over Bethany College.  He has not allowed an earned run in his last 15 innings of work, lowering his season ERA to 1.57.
 
- Kiki Menendez currently leads the nation with 13 home runs, while he ranks third with 41 RBI.
 
- The Rams lead the all-time series with Dallas Christian 18-4.
 
- During their seven game winning streak, the Rams have outscored their opponents 86-37 while batting .415 as a team with 17 home runs.
 
- During his six-game hitting streak, Menendez is batting .577 with 8 home runs and 24 RBI.
