Lady Rams Complete Sweep Of Aggies With Comeback

GOODWELL, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (24-10, 10-2 SAC) completed a sweep of Oklahoma Panhandle State University (12-25, 5-15 SAC) with a two wins at Aggie Softball Field. The Lady Rams cruised to a 7-0 game one win before mounting a comeback to win game two 6-5.

In game one, the Lady Rams stole a run in the first inning and held serve until a five-run fifth inning gave TXWES some breathing room.

Kayla Prachyl led off the game with an infield single before Bailey Terry drove the run in on a double to the gap in right-center.

Prachyl and Terry did it again in the fifth. The senior first baseman doubled home a run before Terry went deep to center for a three-run homer. Hailey Hollingsworth capped the drive to make it a 6-0 game.

Tobi Bonifacio added another run on a sacrifice fly to cap the scoring at 7-0 as the Lady Rams glided to an easy win.

Terry went 3 for 3 with three RBI. Makenna Aycock (7-3) tossed a complete game shutout, navigating through seven hits, to go along with one walk and three strikeouts.

Game two was a tightly contested affair, as neither team seemed to find the groove at the plate, scattering just six hits between the two teams through the first five innings.

The Aggies finally broke the scoring silence in the sixth, rallying off four runs and putting the Lady Rams on the ropes heading into the seventh inning.

Not to be outdone, Texas Wesleyan came back with a vengeance. The Lady Rams rattled off an epic comeback, starting with a Bonifacio double to center field. Demi Dotson singled the run home before Taylor Sutton continued her hot streak with RBI single. Wernet went ham on bases clearing triple to take the lead. Hollingsworth added another for good measure to give the Lady Rams a 6-4 advantage.

It turns out TXWES needed that extra run, as Jewell Lee hit an inside-the-park home run to make it a one run game. Haleigh Scott doubled with two outs to put the tying run in scoring position, but Lauren Wernet (8-5) and the Ram defense were able to get the final out to secure the comeback win.

Wernet got the win in two innings of relief work. She allowed a run on three hits, issued no walk, and sat down one.

The Lady Rams will come home to host Southwestern Christian University on Wednesday, April 4. The double header is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start at Sycamore Park.
