Lady Rams Upset No. 5 Stars, Split Day

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (33-13, 17-5 SAC) earned a split of No. 5 Oklahoma City University (39-6, 24-2 SAC) at Sycamore Park in Tuesday. The Lady Rams posted a 7-4 win in game one before the Stars came back to win a 10-2 game two.

The Lady Rams forced the issue right off the bat, ripping through the Stars defense in the first inning with back-to-back base hits from Kayla Prachyl and Jenna Rhoades to set up a three run inning. Taylor Sutton plated the first run on a groundout before two crossed on a throwing error.

Baileigh Loux got the Stars on the board in the second inning with a sacrifice fly, but the Lady Rams would go on to take the run back in the third after a no out double play.

TXWES made big noise in the fourth inning. Rhoades hit her third single of the game before Terry ripped one through the left side to bring clean-up hitter Taylor Sutton to the plate. Sutton delivered the dagger, lifting a long fly ball over the left-center wall to put the game out of reach.

The Stars made up some ground with a two-run fifth inning that included an Abby Meador home run, and plated one more in the seventh, but OCU could not keep pace with TXWES. Makenna Aycock and the Lady Rams closed out the seventh to take the 7-4 win.

Aycock (12-3) once again stood tall against another NAIA top-5 team. She allowed four runs (three earned), on seven hits, walked three, and had no strikeouts.

In game two, the Lady Rams got off to a rocky start, committing a few uncharacteristic errors in the first inning that led to a four run hole.

The Stars piled on in the third inning, tacking on five runs for a 9-0 advantage before the Lady Rams got in the board in the fourth.

Demi Dotson worked a walk and stole her 15th bag of the season before coming around to score on a Prachyl RBI double in the right-center gap.

The Stars took their 10 th run of the game in the fifth inning, and although Aycock singled home a run in the bottom of the inning for the Lady Rams, Oklahoma City recorded the final out to activate the run-rule for the win.

Sutton went 2 for 6 with a home run and four RBI in the doubleheader. Rhoades went 4 for 7 on the day. Terry went 2 for 4 with three walks. Aycock went 4 for 6 with a RBI in the split.

The Lady Rams will head to Oklahoma City, OK for a bout with Mid-America Christian on Saturday, April 21. First pitch is scheduled for noon at Jack Allen Field.
