FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (36-16, 20-8 SAC) notched a pair of wins over Mid-America Christian University (32-16, 13-13 SAC) at Sycamore Park on Wednesday. The Lady Rams grabbed a 4-2 game one win before taking the night cap, 3-1.
Â
The third time was not much of a charm in regards to getting this conference match-up under good weather, as the first two attempts were postponed because of thunderstorms in the forecast. The day was soaked with rain with a strong, cold north wind, hardly ideal for late April softball, but the Lady Rams will take the sweep nonetheless.
Â
In game one,
Hailey Hollingsworth broke a 1-1 tie with a bullet that left the yard in a hurry for a two-run home run.
Â
The Evangels got one back in the sixth, but
Makenna Aycock (13-4) was sharp in the 4-2 win. The junior from Tyler, TX went the distance, allowing a pair of runs on six hits, to go along with three walks and one strikeout.
Â
In game two,
Bailey Terry went 3 for 3 with two RBI, including a rocket back up the middle in the third inning to give the Rams a 1-0 edge.
Jenna Rhoades tacked on the second run in the fifth on a RBI triple down the left field line before Terry brought run in on a bloop single into shallow left for a 3-0 advantage.
Â
The Evangels got a run back in the fifth after Ribbin Anderson laced a fly ball down the right field line and into the far corner of Sycamore Park. The speedy Anderson raced around to home plate for an inside the park home run.
Â
The one run would be all that
Sidney Stewart (8-6) and the Lady Rams would allow though. Stewart pitched all seven in the win, allowing one run on five hits, walking one, while striking out four.
Â
The Lady Rams are firmly planted in the third spot in the SAC standings with four games remaining in the regular season. Oklahoma City holds the top spot, followed by Science and Arts in second.
Â
Texas Wesleyan will begin a four game series with Central Christian College on Friday, April 27. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. The Lady Rams will celebrate senior day on Saturday, April 28 with a doubleheader with the Tigers starting at noon. Â
