Lady Rams Roar Past Tigers; Terry Breaks School Record For RBI In A Single Season

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (38-16, 22-8 SAC) took a pair of run-rule wins from Central Christian College (14-38, 7-23 SAC) at Sycamore Park on Friday. In the first ever meeting between the two teams, the Lady Rams overpowered the Tigers 13-2 in game one before getting an 8-0 shutout in the night cap.

Bailey Terry made school history in game two. The junior from Las Cruces, NM has an impressively consistent bat and glove throughout her career, and today she broke the school record for RBI in a single season. She went 3 for 3 with four RBI in game one to set up a two-run, opposite field, inside the park home run down the right field line to drive in her 62nd RBI of the season.

"The pitcher kept going outside, so I did my best to go with what she was giving me," Terry said as she described her at bat. The Tigers were in a bit of a shift that left a massive gap in right field.

"I wasn't thinking homerun, maybe a double," said Terry. "but I was running as fast as I could when I saw coach [Shannon] Gower's arm swinging." She needed the homerun to break the record.

In game one, the Lady Rams put up crooked numbers in all four innings.

The top of the TXWES lineup fired off three base hits to start the home half of the first inning, capped by a Terry two run base knock through the left side for an early lead.

The Lady Rams posted a five run, five hit inning in the second, starting with a two-run inside the park home run down the right field line. A pair of RBI singles and a RBI groundout later and Texas Wesleyan held a 7-0 lead through two innings.

Texas Wesleyan kept pouring it on, taking three runs in each of the third and fourth innings. The Tigers were able to get in the board with a two-run fourth, but the high powered offensive display from the home team was no match for Central Christian in the lop-sided 13-2 final.

Makenna Aycock (14-5) picked up the win. She went five innings, allowed two runs on four hits, walked three, and struck out four.

Jenna Rhoades went 3 for 3 and a hit by pitch with a pair of stolen bases. Tobi Bonifacio went 2 for 3 with three RBI and two stolen bases. Demi Dotson went 2 for 3 with three RBI in the win.

Sidney Stewart (9-5) dismantled the Tiger hitters in game two. The right-hander from Forney, TX got the shutout and allowed just two hits, walked three, and sat down four.

The Lady Ram sticks kept a good pace in game two, posting 11 hits after racking up 16 hits in game one.

TXWES took two runs in each of the first and second innings, highlighted by a Taylor Sutton two-run single to deep center.

The Lady Rams ran the score to 8-0 in the fourth. After Terry hit her two-run inside the parker, Kitty Knotts drove in a run on a double to gap in right-center before Saeya Esparza capped the scoring with a rocket up the middle to plate Knotts from second.

Central Christian threatened to score in the fifth after Karina Flores shot one into left field with a runner on second in Altavia Hall. Hall rounded third, testing the arm of Lauren Wernet. Hall was cut down at the plate with a superbly accurate throw from Wernet to Sutton for the tag, ending the game.

Sutton went 2 for 2 with two RBI. Terry went 1 for 2 with two RBI. Rhoades added two more hits, going 2 for 3.

The Lady Rams will celebrate senior day with a doubleheader against these same Central Christian Tigers tomorrow. First pitch is set for noon at Sycamore Park.
