Rams Sweep Aggies - Run Streak to 16

FORT WORTH, TX:  The 19th ranked Texas Wesleyan University Baseball team (29-7, 16-2 SAC) ran its winning streak to 16 consecutive games by sweeping a Sooner Athletic Conference doubleheader against Oklahoma Panhandle State University (18-25, 9-12 SAC) at Sycamore Park on Sunday.  The Rams edged the Aggies 4-3 in game one and then took the nightcap by a score of 6-0.

In game one, the Aggies turned a leadoff walk into a run in the second inning, but Ted Wisdom singled and scored to tie the game in the third.

A Texas Wesleyan error led to an OPSU run in the top of the fourth, but Julio Ibarra delivered a game-tying triple in the bottom of the inning.

In the sixth inning, the Aggies again snared a one-run lead with an RBI double from Kasey Leatherwood.  Aiden Laurini and Kiki Menendez started the bottom of the sixth off with back-to-back singles.  Logan Bistrup scored the tying run on an OPSU throwing error and Jacob Barfield gave the Rams a 4-3 lead with a sacrifice fly.

Alex Davis worked a perfect seventh inning to nail down the win and collect his eighth save of the season.

Parker Robinson (3-0) earned the win after allowing one run on two hits in two innings of relief work.

In game two, Stephen Yancey was perfect through the first 3.1 innings on his way to a complete game shutout.

Yancey got all the support he would need in the first inning.  Ibarra knocked in two with a single and Barfield pushed the score to 3-0 with an RBI groundout.

Jake Salinas doubled and scored in the second inning.  Logan Bistrup tripled in the fourth and scored on a single from Donnie Lopez.  Barfield doubled in the fifth and capped the scoring when he came in on a two-out single from Chandler Schoelkopf.

Yancey (7-2) allowed five hits and a walk while striking out three in seven innings.

Lopez set the table from the Rams going 3-for-4 in the leadoff spot.  Bistrup had two of the Rams' 12 hits, going 2-for-3 with a triple.

The Rams will return to action on Wednesday when they host Texas College.  That game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start.
