Lady Rams Hold Off Aggies In SAC Tournament Opener

CHICKASHA, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (41-16) held off Oklahoma Panhandle State University (25-31) 7-4 in the first pool game of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament at Bill Smith Ballpark on Thursday.

The Lady Rams overcame a 4-1 deficit with a six-run fifth inning to fend off the upset minded Aggies. The win marks the seventh straight for the team.

The opening game of the tournament for the Lady Rams was delayed by seven hours because of heavy rain and thunderstorms that swept through Oklahoma.

Bailey Terry lead TXWES once again, this time with a 3 for 4, two RBI performance. Jenna

Tobi Bonifacio drove in the tying and go-ahead runs with a bases loaded single to center before Makenna Aycock plated two more in the next at bat to give the team some breathing room.

The Aggies made their presence felt from the first inning as Brooke Bolton lifted a ball over the left field wall for a 2-0 advantage to start the contest. Bolton added another in the fifth, and Jena Konieczka hit a sacrifice fly to give OPSU a three run lead before the Lady Rams mounted the comeback.

Aycock (15-5) stayed patient in the circle, coming back with back-to-back strikeouts after giving up the home run to get out the inning. She allowed four runs on five hits, gave out six free passes, but sat down eight in the complete game win.

The Lady Rams will continue pool play tomorrow, Friday, May 4 taking on Bacone College at 11:00 a.m. before battling No. 3 Science and Arts at 5:00 p.m.
