CHICKASHA, OK - The Texas Wesleyan University Women's Volleyball team needed only an hour to dismantle the University of Science and Arts (4-15, 2-8) in a three-set sweep Saturday, improving to an 8-2 Sooner Athletic Conference record, 12-6 overall.
Texas Wesleyan hit .500 in Set 1 - 17 kills to 3 attacking errors - while the Drovers made a mess of the second set offensively - 5 kills to a whopping 11 attacking errors. The Lady Rams outpaced USAO in blocks 8-2, digs 43-27 and service aces 10-1 during the 60-minute rout.
Dana Lohrke matched her 2017 campaign with her seventh double-digit kill game, leading the Rams with 11.
Sasha Robinson spiked seven while
Jasmine Creek notched six points.
Brenda Pargas led the passing attack with 11 assists, but a number of different players got to be major assisters. Robinson recorded eight assists,
Hannah Altman found seven connections and
Sunny Clark - who had just three assists on the season and has been primarily used as a server and defender - served up six successful passes.
Jasmine Creek led the defense with nine digs, her fourth-straight contest as the critical category's leader for the Lady Rams. After going all season without a service ace, she had five of the team's 10 on Saturday. Clark had three aces and Lohrke had the other two.
Chastiny Brown and
Tierra Coverson each sent back four Drover attacks for blocks.
RAMBLINGS
- In the five matches against USAO, Texas Wesleyan has never lost a set and 14 out of 15 games has held the Drovers to less than 20 points.
- Nothing changed at the top of the SAC standings after Saturday's results. The Lady Rams still trail Oklahoma City by one game and lead John Brown by one game, nestled alone in third place.
WHAT'S NEXT
Texas Wesleyan takes a break from SAC competition and travels to Wiley College Tuesday night before heading back on the road next weekend at Langston (Friday) and Central Christian (Saturday), two teams the Rams beat the first go-around this season.
