SILOAM SPRINGS, AR – Texas Wesleyan Women's Basketball (9-11, 7-5 SAC) outscored John Brown (12-7, 8-4 SAC) 37-22 in the second half to earn their second victory over the Golden Eagles this season, 72-64.
The victory – crucial in the conference standings – helps the Lady Rams postseason positioning.
In a tug-of-war fourth quarter, TXWES made the final push. The Rams led 56-51 (8:52 to play) on a jump shot from
Nicole Gleason, before John Brown scored five straight to tie. Again, the Rams took command with a 6-0 run, capped by a Gleason three. The Golden Eagles charged back with an 8-0 run to take their first lead of the quarter with 3:36 left.
The Lady Rams were not discouraged.
Two possessions later following a stop,
Evie Whorley nailed a three and an empty John Brown possession gave way to a Gleason three on the other end.
Lexi Burns hit all four of her free throws down the stretch and Texas Wesleyan closed it out. The Rams defense contributed to John Brown's 0-for-4 finish from the floor with three turnovers.
Burns ended with 21 points on 7-of-15 shooting. Whorley had five assists to go with her 10 points, 4-of-6 shooting. Gleason scored 16 points and hit four of the team's 11 threes, tying a season high for the squad from long range. Texas Wesleyan has hit 11 3s three different times this season, twice in the last month.
Kyla Grant started and played 28 minutes, dominating the paint with nine rebounds. While Bailey Cameron notched 20 for the Golden Eagles, the Lady Rams held the rest of John Brown's roster to single digits.
Tomi Sanchez chipped in eight points off the bench while
Chrystal Ngawuchu added six. Gleason and Whorley each added four steals, forcing 15 as a team.
With John Brown up 49-42 with 6:11 to play in the third frame, the Golden Eagles subbed in five new players and then missed their next five shots, going scoreless for 3:20. The Lady Rams outscored John Brown 5-0 during that stretch.
