No. 13 USAO hands TXWES first conference loss

CHICKASHA, OK - After a first half of surviving 15 University of Science and Arts-Oklahoma (12-1, 3-1 SAC) shots without giving up a goal (seven saves from TXWES goalkeeper Christy Zwart) Texas Wesleyan Women's Soccer (9-4, 4-1 SAC) broke down in the second half and surrendered three goals to the Drovers in a 3-0 loss.

The No. 13 Drovers defeated No. 9 John Brown 1-0 last week and with the win over Texas Wesleyan now has the inside track for the Sooner Athletic Conference regular season championship, which the Lady Rams won in 2018. USAO, TXWES and John Brown have finished the regular season in the top three, three of the past four seasons. The Lady Rams will face John Brown at Martin Field October 24.

Texas Wesleyan was out-shot 33-5, 14-1 on-goal, with Zwart tying her career high in saves with 11. The only other time Zwart was called upon to save 11 shots was against USAO in 2017. The best look at goal for the Rams came in the 26th minute when Savanna Barron put a ball on target. Danica Kunschik got one off a couple of minutes prior, but the shot sailed high.

Tameair Grosvenor will have to wait another game to break the program's career goals scored record. She is two goals away. Grosvenor was suffocated all night, managing just one shot for only the third time as a Ram and the first time since her freshman season.

Texas Wesleyan will face Central Christian (4-6, 0-3 SAC) next Friday in McPherson, a team that's been a bit of a pill for the Lady Rams since joining conference. Despite the Tigers 5-16 record in conference since joining the SAC in 2017, Central Christian has taken the Lady Rams to overtime back-to-back seasons, coming up short 2-1 both times.
