FORT WORTH, TX - Texas Wesleyan Volleyball (13-6, 9-2 SAC) didn't have too much trouble with Central Christian (3-18, 0-11 SAC) Friday night at the Sid Richardson Center, dominating the Tigers 25-9, 25-15, 25-15. The victory improves the Rams' record at home to 6-1.
While starters
Chastiny Brown (9 kills, 0 errors, hit percentage .750)
Brittni Mohle (6 kills, 0 errors, hit percentage .500),
Brenda Pargas (21 assists) and
Madison Lopez (15 digs) all played up to their standard, it was those who came off the bench that shined against a Tigers team that didn't have much of one - Central Christian traveled with just eight players on the roster.
Madison Little had eight kills in five appearances earlier this season and one kill all of last year, but rocketed seven kills with a block and five digs Friday night, hitting .385. Little showed a full charge Friday as the match's hardest hitter and helped straighten out the ship through rocky waters early in the second set.
McKayla Flowers contributed five kills,
Morgan Burns put together 12 assists and
Veronika Webb powered 10 kills in the Lady Rams' favor.
While Central Christian didn't have much firepower, libero McKenzee Cook routinely carried the squad with tremendous defensive plays and effort off the back line with 13 digs, splitting the digs lead with Morgan Cook. The offense for the Tigers is what let the team down, contributing 16 attacking errors to just 17 kills. CCU didn't do itself any favors early, surrendering the first six points of the match, which included two service aces from Mohle, two kills from Brown, a spike from
Arianna Alvarado and a committed error.
It was the seventh home game of the year, but oddly enough the seventh-straight home game that did not feature a fourth or fifth set. The Lady Rams have swept six of their seven opponents and lost to No. 24 Oklahoma City in straight sets.
Texas Wesleyan quickly turns the weekend around to face Langston at noon Saturday, followed by Southwest (NM) at 2 p.m. - both at the Sid Richardson Center. Both Langston and Southwest got swept by Southwestern Assemblies of God Friday night.Â
The Sooner Athletic Conference continues to be a conference of haves and have-nots in volleyball. The top five (OCU, John Brown, TXWES, SAGU and MACU) have at least a two game lead on the field of six innocent bystanders. The bottom six are a combined 10-102 in sets against the top five in the conference. Both Central Christian and Langston have not won a set against the top five in 2019.
