Men's Soccer drops battle to SAC leader JBU, 4-1

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas Wesleyan Men's Soccer team (4-12, 3-4 SAC) dropped a 4-1 match to (RV) John Brown (12-2, 6-0 SAC) at Polytechnic HS field on Friday.

The match originally scheduled for Thursday evening was moved to Friday morning due to the downpour of rain and lightning Fort Worth saw yesterday.

The Rams held strong for most of the first half, as the narrower field dimensions had the Golden Eagles playing passes too long. JBU also seemed to need a bit a time to settle on the speedier turf surface of the FWISD field, but the Golden Eagles finally found a lead in the 37th minute. Jacob Zamarron put in a goal off of a deflection that found the top left corner of the net.

After half time, the Golden Eagles found the formula. The top team in the conference found the back of the net three more times and found more confidence with each.

The Rams didn't back away however. In the 82nd minute, Julius Williams found Robinson Mugisha in the middle of the box. Mugisha beat the JBU keeper from 18-yards out, crafting a shot that settled in the left corner of the goal to put the Rams on the board.

Shots were 20-8 in favor of JBU, but the Golden Eagles were considerably off frame on many.

For Mugisha, he finds the first goal of his collegiate career. The freshman midfielder from Euless, Texas is a marketing major.

Bastian Blumenberg stopped eight in the loss. He currently ranks fifth in the nation with 99 saves on the season.

The team stays home and will celebrate senior day in a conference match with Wayland Baptist on Tuesday, Oct. 29. That game set for a 7:00 p.m. kick-off.
