Texas Wesleyan falls at Mid-America Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - Texas Wesleyan Men's Soccer (4-13, 3-5 SAC) fell 3-0 at Mid-America Christian (13-2-1, 6-1-1 SAC) 3-0 Saturday afternoon at the Evangels, setting up a first-round rematch in the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament.

With the loss, the Rams are in seventh place in the conference. MACU is locked into second place, two wins behind first-place John Brown and two losses ahead of third-place University of Science and Arts. TXWES has one game left against 4-3-1 Wayland Baptist, Senior Day, on Tuesday November 5, 8 p.m. at Martin Field but can't catch the Pioneers in the loss column. Oklahoma Panhandle State, currently occupying the sixth seed, finished conference play 4-4-1, one fewer loss than the Rams, with a 2-0 victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God earlier in the day. The Lions are out of tournament contention with a 1-7 conference record.

The No. 2 seed will play the No. 7 seed in the first round of the tournament, which will feature the top eight teams from the regular season. All games are hosted by the higher seed.

Saturday, the Rams were out-shot 23-8 and gave up goals in the 23rd (scored off deflection), 44th (headed in from left side from five yards out) and 77th (off cross from 20-yards out) minutes. Bastian Blumenberg had three saves in the first half. Diego Casas came in to defend the net in the final 45 minutes and earned three saves of his own. The sophomore got his first action since August 22 in goal and his first saves of the season.

Julius Williams got off three shots, two on target. Two of them came early on in the 18th and 22nd minutes as he provided the first spark of offense for Texas Wesleyan on the day, just before the Evangels countered. Juan Ray forced a save in the 30th minute and Carlos Mendez got the last good look for Texas Wesleyan in the 65th minute.
