OPSU pulls away from TXWES

GOODWELL, OK - Friday night, Texas Wesleyan Men's Soccer (2-10, 1-2 SAC) was unable to ride the momentum of the team's thrilling game-winning goal in the final seconds against Southwestern Christian, falling to Oklahoma Panhandle State (6-2-1, 2-1 SAC) on the road, 4-0.

Texas Wesleyan gave up an early goal (2nd minute) but managed to keep the score 1-0 deep into the second half. Texas Wesleyan out-shot the Aggies 16-11, getting more looks in both halves. Early on, the Rams dominated the shot chart, getting off four shots in the 10 minutes that followed OPSU's early goal. The score came off the first shot of the game, the fourth time an opponent has scored in the first five minutes of a game this season.

Juan Rey and Hector Perez each recorded three looks at goal and Claudio Barraza came off the bench to take a crack at five opportunities. The numbers continue to show the Rams are better than their record - three times this season TXWES has out-shot its opponents in a loss.

Late, the game got away from the Rams and the Aggies were precise with their opportunities. OPSU scored goals in the 72nd, 76th and 90th minutes, taking only one other shot in the final 18 minutes of the game.

The Rams continue their four-game road trip Tuesday October 8 at Oklahoma City. TXWES will return home Thursday October 24 against John Brown. The standings will get a little clearer over the weekend. The Aggies and Rams are the only teams who have played three conference games thus far, while much of the SAC has only played one conference foe.
