Rams climb standings with 3-0 win over Stars

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - Texas Wesleyan Men's Soccer (3-10, 2-2 SAC) is starting to find a rhythm down the stretch, taking out Oklahoma City (5-6, 0-3 SAC) 3-0 Tuesday night. The Rams took advantage of their limited opportunities, scoring three goals on just ten shots.

Julius Williams was aggressive, accounting for six of those looks, and scored first in the 27th minute after retrieving a pass from Carlos Mendez and slipping past the goalkeeper from eight yards out. Claudio Barraza pounced on the opportunity to double the lead in the 34th minute off an exchange from Hector Perez and Eddie Rodriguez to smash a ball just inside the left post.

Barraza tallied his second multi-goal game of the season when, in the 59th minute, he connected from 12 yards out thanks to a clever ball from Williams. In all three wins this season, TXWES has scored three goals.

Texas Wesleyan goalkeeper Bastian Blumenberg helped preserve the shutout during a nine minute stretch in the second half (between the 55th and 63rd minutes) recording three saves during that time. The Rams faced a barrage of attacks from Oklahoma City late, resulting in five corner kicks in the last seven minutes of the game but TXWES' defense stood tall, only allowing one shot attempt, which was blocked by Lazar Pavlovic.

Getting Pavlovic back into action this past week after Pavlovic missed the last half of September has provided a big boost to the back line. The Rams also got back Matteus Macedo Tuesday after an injury hampered him for the last three weeks.

Assists from Rodriguez, Williams and Mendez were the first of the season for all three. TXWES has assists this season from seven different players. It was the first win for Texas Wesleyan Men's Soccer over Oklahoma City since October 28, 2014 and the first triumph on the Stars home field since a 1-0 victory October 29, 2013. The Rams have scored at least three goals in three of their last five SAC regular season road games.

With Texas Wesleyan's upset over Southwestern Christian earlier this season and the victory over OCU, the Rams sit in sixth place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings with a chance to make a big leap over the next two games. The Rams will face winless-in-conference Central Christian and Science and Arts-Oklahoma before returning home to take on John Brown October 24. The Drovers game is set for Friday October 11 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
