Women's Soccer dismantles upstart Aggies

GOODWELL, OK - Texas Wesleyan Women's Soccer (8-3, 3-0 SAC) obliterated Oklahoma Panhandle State (2-5, 0-3 SAC) 16-0 Friday night on OPSU's home turf. It's the Aggies first season as a program and Texas Wesleyan made sure they knew it. It was the largest margin of victory for the Rams program since setting a goals record - 20 - in a 20-0 win over Southwestern Adventist October 17, 2009.

The Lady Rams out-shot the Aggies 38-0 in a game that featured just three fouls - video game numbers. Taylor Ross and Tameir Grosvenor each had five goals, one short of the record set by Jessica Carrion set against Texas A&M International in 2002. It's a career high for both Ross and Grosvenor, breaking their four-goal mark.

For Grosvenor, the magic number is now four. After 23 goals as a freshman and 23 as a sophomore, Grosvenor now has 25 as a junior with six games left in the regular season. Her 71 goals are just four short of breaking Carrion's career goal-scoring record of 74. Grosvenor will likely break the record on the road, as the Lady Rams will be traveling over the next couple of weeks at Oklahoma City October 8, at Science and Arts October 11 and at Central Christian October 19. OCU and USAO are also still unbeaten in conference, however.

Grosvenor has tied Carrion's second-best season (2002) with 25 goals. The program record is 29 (Carrion), set in 2003. Every shot Grosvenor took Friday, she put in the back of the net and did it all in just 30 minutes of work.

Overshadowed by the chase for history, Cat Smith scored a hat trick of goals off the bench, her collegiate career high. Smith now has an insane six goals and two assists in her last 117 minutes on the field, all coming off the bench.

Sara Gomez, Taylor Ross, Julia Soriano and Danielle Trought each had a pair of assists. Hannah Allen, Reyna Ramirez and Trought also scored.

After the drumming, Grosvenor leads the nation in goals. So do the Rams, 58 on the season, six ahead of Science and Arts' 52. USAO will face John Brown October 5 in their next conference game and play OPSU on October 8.
