Grosvenor's pair help Lady Rams defeat OCU in extra time

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - For the first time this season, Texas Wesleyan Women's Soccer (9-3, 4-0 SAC) was forced to play extra time to get a win, but the Lady Rams earned the 'W' with a Tameir Grosvenor goal in the 96th minute from six-yards out, assisted by Savanna Barron.

The country's leading goal-scorer, Grosvenor, earned her 27th of the season, two away from tying the program's single season record for goals scored and two away from breaking the record for most goals in a career - doing so in just three seasons of play (the old record took four seasons to complete).

"We struggled to get things going in the final third," said Head Coach Josh Gibbs. "We just weren't really dialed in. We also wasted too many chances. I was very proud of the players for grinding it out ... it didn't really feel like it was our night for sections of the game, but the girls really pushed each other to pull out the win. We now have to turn our attention to a very dangerous (University of Science and Arts-Oklahoma) team. It's another big ask of these players, but they always seem to respond."

Friday October 11 - it's all set - a showdown with the Drovers, ranked No. 8 in the most recent NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll released on October 2. There's already been a shakeup - No. 11 John Brown took out the Drovers 1-0 last weekend. John Brown, Wayland Baptist and the Lady Rams are still unbeaten in conference play.

That just might mean that USAO could be feeling even more desperate and out to prove a point. The Drovers average nearly 30 shots per game, second in the country and have eight shutouts to their name, also second most in the NAIA. But Texas Wesleyan has a point to prove to - the Rams are still trying to regain national attention after losing to two ranked opponents the first weekend of the season and, despite having more wins than No. 11 John Brown and the most goals scored in the country (58), the Lady Rams did not receive a single vote for consideration into the top 25 in that recent poll.

Grosvenor's first goal of Tuesday night's win over Oklahoma City was scored in the ninth minute, also assisted by Barron. Texas Wesleyan out-shot OCU 5-0 in the overtime period, as many shots as the Lady Rams managed to get off in the entire second half. Christy Zwart saved eight shots in goal for TXWES, the second-most saves she's had in 2019. The Lady Rams have now won four-straight against the Stars.
