Women's Soccer misses opportunity to move up in SAC

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - With No. 10 John Brown's surprising 1-1 tie with 4-4-1 Southwestern Christian on Saturday, Texas Wesleyan Women's Soccer (11-5, 6-2 SAC) had a chance to move into the No. 2 spot in the Sooner Athletic Conference with a win. But in the 104th minute, Mid-America Christian had upset on the mind too, breaking a scoreless tie on a left-side header lifting the Evangels into the conference's second spot instead of the Lady Rams with a 1-0 win.

MACU has busted onto the scene in a very competitive top half of the conference. Picked sixth in the preseason coaches SAC poll, the Evangels have crashed the party and made things a little more difficult for Texas Wesleyan and others this postseason. Mid-America was just 6-10 in 2018.

Lady Rams goalkeeper Christy Zwart was busy. She had a whopping 13 saves - topping her old record of 11 set earlier this season against University of Science and Arts-Oklahoma. Zwart had four saves in the last ten minutes of the first have alone and two in 15 seconds as the first half was winding to a close.

TXWES' offense didn't receive a lot of golden opportunities. Tameir Grosvenor's look in the 32nd minute was saved - one of six attempted shots. Grosvenor is scoreless in three of her last four games as she attempts to break the single season record (29, she has 28) and the all-time career goals record (currently tied at 74). With 13:39 left in regulation, Taylor Ross had a shot saved and just before the first overtime concluded, Danica Kunschik saw an opportunity for the go-ahead goal quickly closed off.

The Rams were once again without the services of defender Savannah Hart (injury).

With just one set of games to go in SAC play, No. 9 USAO has clinched the No. 1 seed in the postseason bracket at 8-1, while MACU and John Brown are both 6-1-1. The two will battle on Tuesday November 5 at the same time the Lady Rams, currently the No. 4 seed, will face off against Wayland Baptist on Senior Day. Texas Wesleyan could still get to No. 2 with a tie between the Evangels and Golden Eagles and could still get the No. 3 with a win. The Pioneers are locked into the No. 7 spot with a 3-4-1 SAC record heading into the regular season finale at Martin Field.
