FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas Wesleyan volleyball team (20-7, 15-3 SAC) made short work of Wayland Baptist (13-16, 8-9 SAC) on Senior Day in a straight set win (25-19, 25-15, 25-21) at the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday.
Five seniors were honored in their final home match of the regular season.
Chastiny Brown,
Brenda Pargas,
Madison Lopez,
Brianna Sitton, and
Brittni Mohle represent 98 wins, two NAIA National Tournament Opening Round appearances, and one NAIA National Tournament final site appearance.
TXWES found control early and kept it for most of the match. The Lady Rams tallied 10 kills and kept the ball alive with 16 more digs than the Pioneers.
Wayland did not do themselves any favors, committing 14 service errors that killed thier momentum the entire match.
A 12-2 run in the first set established a 17-6 Ram lead in the first frame, before pushing the score to 23-10 highlighted by a Sidney Charlton slam.
The Pioneers found a 7-1 rally to jump back in contention, but it was
Veronika Webb who got the Rams back in track before WBU error gave TXWES at 25-19 win.
The Rams rolled in set two as Brown led the charge with six kills. Wayland could not figure out the senior from Houston as she did a great job of mixing up her swings with power and finesse.
The two teams were neck and neck early in the third set, and Wayland found a 14-12 lead on the heels of two consecutive service aces from Renzelle Horner. That lead did not last long however, and the Rams busted out a 5-0 rally capped on a
Brittni Mohle kill for an18-15 edge. The teams went back and forth, but TXWES held advantage and saw the game out with a 25-21 win.
Brown led the team with 10 kills, hitting a scalding .529 in the win.
Arianna Alvarado found nine kills, while Mohle was extremely efficient hitting – going 8-0-18 for .444.
Pargas tallied 21 assists, adding 11 digs for her fourth double-double of the year.
Morgan Burns tacked on 16 assists, and Lopez led all players with 16 digs.
The Lady Rams will travel to Mid-America Christian, who sits fifth in the conference standings, on Friday, November 8.
