Volleyball sweeps MACU, maintains second place

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - Texas Wesleyan Volleyball (21-7, 16-3 SAC) continues their run over the middle and lower tiers of Sooner Athletic Conference play, dispatching Mid-America Christian (14-10, 12-7 SAC) Friday night on the road 25-18, 25-14, 25-18.

Arianna Alvarado recorded 17 kills - five more than she had against the Evangels in this season's first matchup - including eight kills in the third set to put the match away. She scored those 17 kills on just 26 attacks without a single error, the third time this season Alvarado has recorded at least 10 kills without an attacking error. She is the first volleyball player to achieve that mark since Erinn Miller had four matches with at least 10 kills and 0 attacking errors during the Rams' 32-16, 2007 run.

Alvarado continues to climb the kills charts in the SAC with 285 now in her freshman season. She entered Friday night action 11th in the league in successful attacks.

Chastiny Brown chipped in 10 kills and Veronika Webb added eight.

Reigning SAC Player of the Week Brenda Pargas collected 19 more assists and Madison Lopez continued to pace the defense with 12 digs.

The Lady Rams steadily improved their game throughout the night, hitting .243 in Set 1, .394 in Set 2 and .483 in Set 3. The victory marked TXWES' fifth win, the second time this season the team has won at least five in a row.

Texas Wesleyan finishes the regular season on the road Saturday in Chickasha, Oklahoma facing the University of Science and Arts-Oklahoma. The Drovers will be honoring seniors and will not be celebrating a trip to the postseason, sporting a 1-18 conference record. If TXWES takes care of business, it will lock up the No. 2 seed in the SAC Tournament and will host either Southwestern Christian or Wayland Baptist next week. The Eagles (9-10 SAC) and Pioneers (8-11 SAC) play each other in Saturday's season finale.
