VB National Championship pools announced; Lady Rams draw Pool D

TXWES will start pool play with Missouri Baptist on Tues. Dec. 3 at 6:30 p.m.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced the pool assignments and schedule for the 2019 NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championship presented by Delta Hotels in Sioux City, Iowa. Texas Wesleyan drew Pool D and will face No. 4. Missouri Baptist in the first pool match on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the Tyson Events Center.
 
The Lady Rams will play all of their three games in the evening, an advantage for a team that has gone 13-1 in games that start at 6 p.m. or later this season.
 
The other two pool mates, along with the Missouri Baptist Spartans (31-5), are No. 13 Grand View (Iowa) (27-10) and No. 20 Saint Mary (Neb.) (25-14).
 
Missouri Baptist were ranked as high as No. 1 in the NAIA Top 25 poll, before losing to Park (Mo.) in the American Midwest Conference Championship. This will be the first meeting between the two teams.
 
Grand View received an automatic-berth to the final site as the Heart of America Conference regular season champion. The Vikings lost in the conference tournament to No. 12 Central Methodist. The Lady Rams and Vikings play on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. The last and only meeting between the two teams was Sept. 13, 2013. The Vikings won 3-0.
 
Saint Mary took a 3-0 over Lincoln Christian University in national tournament opening round action. The Flames return to the national tournament for the first time since 2006. The Lady Rams and Flames will play on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 8 p.m., the first meeting between the two teams.

The 12 winners from the national championship opening round games join the 19 teams that received an opening round bye and host Morningside (Iowa) to form the 32-team field.

The Tyson Event Center in Sioux City, Iowa, will serve as the venue for the 12th-straight women's volleyball national championship. The tournament will be played from December 3-7.

The 32 teams are divided into eight pools with four teams in each pool. The 2019 season is the fourth year that the entire field (including opening rounds) was expanded to 44 teams. The top two teams out of each pool will advance to the single-elimination bracket starting on Dec. 6

The following teams received a bye to the final site: Central Methodist (Mo.), Columbia (Mo.), Concordia (Neb.), Corban (Ore.), Eastern Oregon, Grand View (Iowa), Indiana Wesleyan, Jamestown (N.D.), Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), Marian (Ind.), Missouri Baptist, Montana Tech, Morningside (Iowa), Northwestern (Iowa), Oklahoma City, Park (Mo.), Providence (Mont.), Southern Oregon, Viterbo (Wis.).

The following teams advanced to the final site after winning their national championship opening-round match-up Saturday: Bellevue (Neb.), Embry-Riddle (Ariz.), IU Kokomo (Ind.), Madonna (Mich.), Martin Methodist (Tenn.), Ottawa (Kan.), Reinhardt (Ga.), Saint Mary (Kan.), Saint Mary (Neb.), Texas Wesleyan, Westmont (Calif.) and Xavier (La.)

Both semifinal matches that take place at 11:00 a.m. CST on Saturday, Dec. 7 will be broadcast of ESPN3 as well as the NAIA Network. The championship match will be played at 7:P00 p.m. CST December 7 and will be broadcast on ESPN3 for the sixth time.
